Power BI for Data Science
Data Scientists often use a variety of tools to perform engineering and predictive modeling activities in their quest to squeeze as much value from data as possible. Although Power BI is sometimes seen as “just” a front-end visualization tool, its capabilities for data manipulation along with its interoperability with popular data science platforms make it a good choice for data experimentation on a broad set of scenarios.

This session will provide an overview of typical use cases that benefit from Power BI’s rich exploration capabilities in support of data science efforts. Attendees will learn about integration points between Power BI and data science platforms that can help uncover valuable business insights.

Target Audience: Data Professionals

Level: Intermediate

Pre-Requisites: None required

Words Matter: Don't Let Power BI Terms Trip You Up
Power BI is a child born out of the Sequel team within Microsoft, and the terms that are used are from the database world.

Here are just some examples: transformation, extract, load, query.
And the list goes on.

This session is designed to de-mystify some of these intimidating terms. We will analyze each one in turn, and 'translate' them into concepts we are familiar with. We will explore where you will encounter these terms within Power BI (and Excel).

This is a session designed for business users who are comfortable using Excel for data analysis  but really want to dig into Power BI and increase their skills. No background in Power BI or databases is required.

Data Visualization Best Practices for Power BI
Power BI dashboards should simplify the data analysis process for busy business managers and workers who do not necessarily have the time or inclination to dig deeply into data. The purpose of charts, graphs, gauges and alerts are to make BI data easy to grasp. However, building dashboards can be a daunting assignment for BI teams, in no small part because the intended user base often consists of corporate executives and the heads of business units. In addition, they can be a demanding audience.

A dashboard is a visual display of the most important information needed to achieve one or more objectives consolidated on a single computer screen so user can monitor the information at a glance, but how do you make all of this information easy to understand? In addition, more importantly how to do you make it compelling to use?

In this session, we will look at some key best practices that will make it easier to deliver your message to our audience and make your dashboard compelling to use.
